Oil drums are recycled into dynamic wall art, ideal for placement indoors or out. Artisans in Haiti cut, hammer, emboss, and paint each piece by hand for remarkable texture and precise detail. Beautiful works of art from recycled metal drums, hand-painted wood products, and stone carvings have become hallmarks of Haitian craftsmanship. Craft making in Haiti is often the sole source of income for families. Your purchase supports these resourceful artisans in one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere.
Comite Artisanal Haitien helps Haitian families make a living by selling their recycled and hand-crafted artwork around the world. In a country afflicted with poverty and natural disaster, hundreds of artisans in Haiti rely on Comite Artisanal Haitien (CAH) to find a fair price and a market for their crafts. Founded in 1973 to reduce migration to the city by selling rural craft makers' wares in Port-au-Prince, CAH today also provides Haitian artisans and craft cooperatives advance payments, financial assistance to families, and emergency disaster relief. CAH represents more than 120 individual Haitian artisans, including the artisans from Cite Soleil, Croix-des-Bouquets, Jacmel, and other impoverished areas in and around Port-au-Prince.
