About Sandpiper Imports

Founded in 2012, Sandpiper Imports is a fair trade company that offers a unique & classic collection of high quality .925 sterling silver jewelry designed and handcrafted by artisans in Bali, Indonesia.

As a member of The Fair Trade Federation, we follow nine established fair trade principles and work directly with a small silversmith artisan community in a village an hour outside of Ubud, a city well-regarded as the cultural and artistic heart of Bali. The high level of craftsmanship has been passed on from generation to generation. Sandpiper Imports honors the cultural creativity of our artisans by selecting pieces that were designed by them. Whether you fall in love with a traditional Balinese filigree style or a design with a more contemporary flair, your purchase of their gorgeous and timeless jewelry fosters economic sustainability for this community and helps to keep this craft alive.

VIDEO: A Behind-the-Scenes Glimpse of Bunyaad Rug Artisans at Work

This comprehensive documentary is packed with real footage demonstrating everything from wool spinning and dyeing to knotting and detailed finishing work. Explore the fascinating world of Oriental rugs and the fair trade rug production.

The Bunyaad rug artisan group includes over 850 families in over 100 villages throughout Pakistan. Bunyaad provides fair and reliable income to artisans who otherwise would have very few ways to sustain their families. This gives them peace of mind and fosters their capacity to plan financially.

When you purchase a Bunyaad fair trade rug, you are improving homes and living conditions, fostering equality between men and women and creating educational opportunities for children.

Prepare For The Rug Event

Global Gifts in Columbus hosts this special rug event to bring these high quality, fairly traded hand-knotted rugs to their community. Since the rugs will be here for just a few days, we encourage you to do a little prep.

  • When you visit our rug event, bring swatches of materials and upholstery, paint chips and pillows to help you choose a rug that will blend with your decor.
  • Measure your room as well as the area you would want your rug to cover. Large rugs are impressive while smaller rugs can be more versatile. Be flexible in sizing and you will increase the number of rugs to choose from.
  • Remember that an Oriental rug will last for generations, while your furniture, upholstery and home will change.
  • Consider rugs that speak to you, rather than one that simply matches its surroundings. Be open to taking rugs home on approval, keeping in mind the rug you finally choose may not be the rug you first selected.

EVENT HOURS:  Wed. 11-7, Thurs. 11-7, Fri. 11-9, Sat. 11-9, Sun. 11-5

Book Launch Party!

When: Friday, September 18, 6-8 PM
Where: Global Gifts at Nora Plaza

Join us as we present the debut of author Jeanne Rhoades Smucker’s memoir, Llano Grande: Growing Up As A Missionary Child in Ecuador.

Jeanne was one year old when she moved with her parents to Ecuador. She lived in Llano Grande for the first 14 years of her life. Now, after more than 55 years, she has returned to her Ecuadorian home and community and reconnected with her childhood friend Mercedes.

In her memoir, she recounts the adventure of returning to the home of her childhood and looking for that part of herself that she left behind.
