"Come Tie-R Sushi," the creation at 45 Degrees, was the winner in the popular vote, being named first in 61 ballots and second or third on 29 others. "En-Tirely Tree-mendous," by Global Gifts, was the selection of the judges – who picked the 45 Degrees creation second. The judge's third choice was "Don't Tread on Me" by Bikes on Mass Ave.
In the fan voting, second place went to "Trendy Car," by Trendy Minds, a creation which allowed folks to sit in a mock race car to have their photo taken. Third place was "Elvis's Kaleidoscope," a working toy created by Mass Ave Toys. The 11th Annual Artful Tread, which coincided with the Spring Gallery Walk, drew a strong crowd to Mass Ave for not only art but street musicians and food as well.
Most of the Artful Tread entries utilized 50 new motorcycle tires donated by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in honor of the Red Bull Indianapolis GP to be staged on Aug. 17-19 at IMS.
Celebrity judges were Kären Haley, executive director of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene and Marilyn Glick; Andy Fraizer, executive director of the Indiana Association of Community Economic Development; and Shannon Forsell, artistic director and managing director of The Cabaret at the Columbia Club.
Many of the tires will remain on display through the month of May. Artful Tread is sponsored by the Mass Ave Merchants Association.
