With Father’s Day being just over a week away, June 19th, here are two accessories that make perfect gifts for fathers.
Some of our neckties and bowties are made through Lucia's Imports of Guatemala using upcycled corte fabric. Corte fabric is a cotton fabric, typically handwoven using foot looms. This fabric is the traditional material used to make Mayan Guatemalan skirts and comes in endless colors and patterns. They also use corte to create colorful textile products such as wallets and headbands.
Lucia’s Imports partners with Guatemalan families, artisan groups, and cooperatives to develop a wholesale market for their quality handicrafts and accessories. This fair trade organization collaborates directly with artisans to design products that embrace traditional Mayan design while being fashionable, modern, and functional.
Global Gifts also carries handmade neckties and bowties from Imani Workshops. Imani Workshops focusses on producing high-quality crafts by HIV positive artisans in Western Kenya. The artisans create these accessories using traditional African fabrics. All of the income earned through sales is reinvested in the workshop where artisans benefit from employment, skills training, and other forms of empowerment.
