Global Gifts at Nora: What Do You Think These Are Made Of?

Global Gifts at Nora: What Do You Think These Are Made Of?

Feature: Mujibha's Environmental and Social Impact

Earth Day is April 22nd, but we celebrate envinromental awareness every day at Global Gifts because "trash from treasure" is a very common theme in the world of Fair Trade.

Case in point: recycled glass bottles, turned upside down, become these elegant goblets. The sandblasted design makes the goblets feel as regal as they look.

These stunning treasures come to Global Gifts by way of Ten Thousand Villages and Mujibha Exports -- an organization that currently employs nine staff in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital city. The staff of Mujibha works with over 100 artisans.

More than half of Zimbabwe’s population is unemployed or underemployed, so the goal of the group is to provide full-time work to as many artisans as possible. The organization provides logistical and managerial support to producers and, whenever possible, assists them by collecting completed orders, managing raw material supply, and even providing loans to producers to assist them in obtaining the capital needed to produce an order.

All of that... to bring us these treasures from the other side of the globe.
