September 11 - 23 Itinerary:
- Two days in Eldoret, Kenya, visiting and working at Imani Workshops. Imani employs HIV/AIDS survivors who have completed the AMPATH treatment program. Imani trains workers, teaches job skills and provides meaningful employment to those learning how to cope with their new lives.
- One day hiking, bird watching, and relaxing in the Kakamega rain forest, one of the few remnants of the massive tropical rainforest which once covered much of the region.
- Three days in the Lake Victoria region working with vulnerable or orphaned school-aged children in the UMOJA program -- the Kenyan branch of the Global Interfaith Partnership, based in Indianapolis. Work experiences might include serving in the schools or assisting in the building of a house. One day will be spent at Lake Victoria, viewing the native bird and mammal wildlife and the hills surrounding Kisumu.
- Three days in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, one of the world’s premier wildlife refuges. The trip is planned during the season of the Great Migration – an opportunity to witness of one of nature’s last remaining migration marvels.
Global Gifts is a Fair Trade organization whose main mission is to create a local marketplace for artisans in the developing world. Trimble, a professional trip planner with decades of experience in the region, feels travel is key to understanding fair trade projects like Imani. Travelers on this trip to Kenya will be able to meet and dialogue with Imani residents whose lives have been transformed through the benefits of fair trade and other compassionate programs.
