Meet Frances, one of the wonderful volunteers at Global Gifts Short North! A native to Columbus, Frances loves to make stuff in her spare time, like upcycling plastic bags into cool creations. She says she was looking for a volunteer opportunity in the Short North area and, building on an interest in fair trade that began in college, was drawn to Global Gifts. According to Frances, fair trade is important because, "The modern way of business is missing the human element. Fair trade is interaction between people instead of interactions between machines and corporations."
Frances tells us that one of the best parts of volunteering at Global Gifts is to see what people can make, including her favorite item in the store right now, the silver Buddha knot necklace from Matr Boomie. Describing Global Gifts as a "great maker-space," she explains that she loves to see "the different innovations and stylistic designs that people come up with." She adds that a bonus about volunteering at Global Gifts in the Short North is, "It's right next to Brassica too!"
