Global Gifts at Nora: Fair Trade Principles

Global Gifts at Nora: Fair Trade Principles

Feature: Fair Trade
It's Fair Trade Certified! (But what does that mean?)

Two certifying organizations, the Fair Trade Federation and the World Fair Trade Organization, have established trade criteria that member businesses adhere to. Global Gifts is a member of the Fair Trade Federation. We purchase our products from vendors who fully commit to the following principles in all of their transactions:

- Create Opportunities for Economically and Socially Marginalized Producers
- Develop Transparent and Accountable Relationships
Build Capacity
Promote Fair Trade
Pay Promptly and Fairly
Support Safe and Empowering Working Conditions
Ensure the Rights of Children
Cultivate Environmental Stewardship
Respect Cultural Identity

A number of these attractive Fair Trade Principles mini-posters (pictured above) have been provided to Global Gifts at Nora for distribution to customers by Mr. Ellie Pooh, a fair trade provider of unique paper products, produced with elephant dung. (Yes, you read that correctly.) We encourage teachers and interested friends of Fair Trade to drop by the store to pick one up, free of charge. (Larger quantities could available for classrooms with advanced notice.)
