Short North: New Volunteer from Chile Brightens Our Day!

We recently sat down with one of our newer volunteers, Mary Jo, to talk about fair trade and to find out what inspires her to volunteer at the store. Mary Jo, who is from Chile and moved to the United States in October, shared that she came here "following the love of my life." She and her love just got married and Mary Jo is currently getting to know the people and places around Columbus.

One day, while walking through the Short North, Mary Jo discovered Global Gifts. She said that she, "fell in love with the shop" and wanted to volunteer. That day, she noticed the volunteer application by the register, asked a staff member about our volunteer program, and started helping out right away.

The hand-carved kisii stone sculptures from Kenya are Mary Jo's favorite fair trade products available at Global Gifts. She likes being part of the fair trade movement because it supports people who are "making a big effort to have a better life" for themselves and for their children too.

We appreciate Mary Jo's sunny smile and great customer service and are so glad she's part of the Global Gifts Short North Team!
